Who this is for
Manufacturers of welded assemblies and equipment; companies preparing for a customer audit or third-party certification; and fabrication teams bringing workshop or field-site records into a consistent system. If you only need a welding procedure or individual welder qualification, state that specifically so it is scoped separately.
ISO 3834 levels and records
ISO 3834-1 describes the selection of ISO 3834-2 (comprehensive), ISO 3834-3 (standard) or ISO 3834-4 (elementary) quality requirements. The choice is not a marketing preference. A specialist should consider the product and contract requirements and the degree of control your welding work needs. ISO 3834 can apply to welding in workshops and at field installation sites. Whether third-party certification is requested, and by whom, is a separate question to confirm for your project.
What to prepare for an ISO 3834 discussion
A useful starting discussion covers your materials and welding processes, product range, manufacturing and site locations, technical specification, existing quality procedures, welding coordination, procedure qualifications, welder or operator qualifications, inspection/NDT arrangements, traceability and subcontracted welding. The exact evidence is chosen against your applicable requirement. Do not assume you need every possible test or a new qualification solely because you are asking about ISO 3834.
If the enquiry concerns a pressure product or a machine placed on a particular market, mention that too. ISO 3834 company quality requirements, pressure equipment conformity and machinery safety/CE compliance may intersect, but one does not substitute for the other. The provider should separate the scopes in its proposal.
How the enquiry works
- Send the customer wording or applicable specification, product type, welding processes and current stage.
- We discuss a relevant specialist contact and ask before sharing your details. The specialist agrees scope, fees and any assessment or certification route directly with you.
- Any assessment or certification decision belongs to the relevant competent body, not ConformArc.
Start with: product/assembly, materials, welding processes, manufacturing and field sites, the exact customer/tender requirement, existing WPS/PQR/WPQR and welder records, and target date. “We need ISO 3834” is enough to start an enquiry if you do not yet have these details; we can identify what to ask next.
Discuss the welding-quality scope.
