A life cycle assessment (LCA) studies environmental impacts across a defined product system. Its usefulness depends on the decision it is meant to inform. A design comparison, customer request and environmental declaration can require different study boundaries and review arrangements. ConformArc helps manufacturers define the brief and coordinate specialist modelling and reporting under an agreed scope.
An LCA starts with a goal, intended audience, functional or declared unit, system boundary and data-quality plan. The inventory then brings together material, energy, process, transport, use and end-of-life information as relevant. Impact assessment and interpretation follow. ISO 14040 sets out the principles and framework, while ISO 14044 gives requirements and guidance for conducting and reporting an LCA. Neither is a generic licence to call a product “certified sustainable”.
We can coordinate a data request by site and product, document assumptions and exclusions, identify missing primary data and work with suitable specialists on modelling, interpretation and a report. Where the intended use calls for independent critical review, that work is scoped separately. An LCA result should explain uncertainty and limitations so a reader knows what it can and cannot support.
The scoped outputs may include a goal-and-scope note, data-collection template, documented boundary and allocation choices, specialist study report and recommendations for next steps. An EPD, carbon footprint or comparative public claim has additional requirements; these are separate decisions. Cost depends on product variants, sites, primary data quality, life-cycle stages, modelling complexity and review needs.
No. An EPD follows a programme and product category rules and generally uses LCA results plus verification and publication requirements.
Not safely without checking comparable units, boundaries, data quality and methods.
No. That is a different claim requiring its own substantiation.
