Ingress Protection & IP Testing Support

ConformArc handles the initial enquiry and helps connect you with a relevant provider for this requirement. The selected provider confirms applicability, technical scope, deliverables, fees and timing. The following explains work that may be relevant to the project; it is not a fixed package supplied by ConformArc.

Enclosure ingress protection IP testing assessment planning

Who this is for

Manufacturers planning ingress-protection evidence for electrical enclosures and equipment housings against a requested IP code or customer specification.

Typical work to discuss with a provider

  • Rating and specification review against the intended evidence purpose
  • Sample-configuration planning for doors, seals, glands and accessories
  • Laboratory feasibility confirmation and test scheduling
  • Report coordination with clear configuration description expectations

Useful inputs for an initial review

  • Equipment or enclosure type
  • Requested IP code and referenced specification
  • Target market, dimensions and material
  • Sealing design, openings and accessories
  • Available samples and existing evidence
  • Whether the product must operate during parts of the assessment
Scope and report acceptance. IEC 60529 addresses degrees of protection provided by enclosures. An IP report should not be relabelled as evidence of a NEMA type. An IP classification alone should not be treated as proof of corrosion performance, chemical resistance or explosion protection. The laboratory issues its own report.
Role clarity. Enquiry support and specialist introductions. Testing, technical advice, certification and regulatory decisions remain with the responsible service providers and authorities.

ConformArc helps manufacturers connect with relevant ingress-protection testing providers. Share your enclosure or equipment details, requested IP code and customer requirement. The selected laboratory confirms test methods, sample configuration, conditions, quotation and reporting scope.

Define the rating and evidence purpose

IEC 60529 addresses degrees of protection provided by enclosures. The IP code expresses protection characteristics through defined designations; its meaning should be interpreted against the applicable standard and test conditions. A claim for one condition does not establish unlimited protection in every operating environment.

IP65, IP66, IP67 and IP68 requests should be scoped to the actual product and intended evidence. Do not assume that immersion evidence automatically establishes every water-jet requirement or that an IP code addresses corrosion, chemical resistance or explosion protection.

Test the configuration you intend to supply

Doors, seals, joints, cable glands, connectors, vents and mounting arrangements can affect ingress performance. Identify whether the sample will be tested with accessories installed, openings sealed or specific connectors engaged. The report should describe the configuration and any conditions relevant to interpreting the result.

Model-family coverage needs a reasoned basis. A different enclosure size, seal or entry arrangement may require additional review rather than automatic reuse of a previous result.

IP and NEMA are not interchangeable

NEMA enclosure types address a different classification system and can include additional requirements. Where the customer requests both, define both scopes explicitly.

Inputs, cost and timeline

Quotation and scheduling depend on the requested evaluations, sample preparation, size, variants, laboratory capacity and any repeat work. Avoid a fixed price or delivery promise before these details are known.

Frequently asked questions

Does IP68 mean waterproof forever?

No. It relates to defined conditions and product configuration; it is not an unlimited lifetime guarantee.

Can I claim a rating from the gasket material alone?

No. The complete enclosure construction and configuration matter.

Does IP testing show corrosion resistance?

An IP classification alone should not be treated as proof of corrosion performance.

Is a tested empty enclosure enough for my panel?

Additional panel construction and electrical requirements may apply. See control-panel support when available.
