Pressure Equipment Directive and Industrial CE Support

ConformArc handles the initial enquiry and helps connect you with a relevant provider for this requirement. The selected provider confirms applicability, technical scope, deliverables, fees and timing. The following explains work that may be relevant to the project; it is not a fixed package supplied by ConformArc.

Flanged pressure equipment and gauge prepared for PED and industrial CE conformity

Who this is for

Manufacturers and exporters of pressure equipment and assemblies preparing an EU pressure-equipment conformity project based on actual product characteristics and intended use.

Typical work to discuss with a provider

  • Product-boundary and pressure-equipment applicability review
  • Classification and category input review where relevant
  • Technical-documentation gap map
  • Testing workstream coordination
  • Independent conformity-assessment coordination where required
  • Declaration and documentation readiness support

Useful inputs for an initial review

  • P&IDs or assembly drawings
  • PS/TS
  • Volume or DN
  • Fluid and intended use
  • Design calculations
  • Materials
  • Joining and inspection records
  • Existing reports and destination market
Scope and report acceptance. CE marking follows the applicable conformity process and manufacturer responsibilities; ConformArc does not issue a CE mark or fix a category before product review.
Role clarity. Enquiry support and specialist introductions. Testing, technical advice, certification and regulatory decisions remain with the responsible service providers and authorities.

A pressure vessel, assembly or industrial system may face more than one EU product requirement. Before commissioning tests or asking for a certificate, manufacturers need to define the product boundary, its intended use and the legislation that applies. A selected specialist helps structure that review and organise the technical evidence workstream.

Assess the pressure-equipment scope

The EU Pressure Equipment Directive 2014/68/EU generally concerns stationary pressure equipment with a maximum allowable pressure greater than 0.5 bar, subject to its scope and exclusions. The applicable category and conformity route depend on product type, pressure, volume or nominal size, fluid group and other details. Some equipment may instead or additionally raise questions under other industrial legislation. A general “CE certificate” request is therefore not a reliable project specification.

A relevant provider can help document equipment boundaries, design basis, relevant standards, material and welding records, inspection and test evidence, instructions, marking and declaration inputs. A category and route review establishes whether and when notified-body involvement is required. Any notified-body activity, test report or certification remains the independent body’s responsibility; the manufacturer retains its own legal obligations.

Practical project output

The initial deliverable should identify the product and assembly scope, unresolved classification inputs, proposed evidence list, independent assessment milestones and ownership of the technical file. This allows testing, documentation and assessment to follow a sensible sequence. Quotation depends on the number of variants, category, available design records, materials, joining processes and external assessment needs.

Frequently asked questions

Does every pressure product require a notified body?

The answer depends on scope and the applicable category or route; it cannot be assumed from product appearance.

Is CE marking a certificate purchased from a consultant?

No. It follows the applicable conformity process and manufacturer's responsibilities.

Can machinery, electrical and pressure requirements overlap?

Yes. Review the complete assembly and its functions rather than treating one directive as universal.
